Lorrainne Sade Baskerville is an American social workeractivist, and trans woman best known for founding transgender advocacy group transGENESIS.[1]

Life and career[edit]

Born in Chicago, Baskerville was the eldest of seven children. In the 1970s, she became familiar with sex workers’ conditions and laws prohibiting wearing female clothing. When AIDS struck a member of her family in the mid-1980s, Baskerville began to volunteer at Howard Brown Health Center and Horizons Community Services. She eventually became an HIV/AIDS case manager.[2]

In 1994, she earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Northeastern Illinois University. Baskerville founded transGENESIS to address issues of gender identitysubstance abuse, HIV/AIDS, sex work, harm reduction, and self-empowerment. Programs have included T-PASS (Trans-People Advocating Safer Sex); a weekly drop-in program for youth and young adults, called TransDiva; and a peer-led transgender support and discussion group. [3]

In 1997, Baskerville received the first Georgia Black Award for service to the transgender community.[4]

In 2000, Baskerville was inducted into the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame,[5] chaired the Youth Events Committee for the Chicago Black Pride 2000 conference, and was selected by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and the 13th International AIDS Conference to lead a panel on transgender issues.[6]

In 2001, Baskerville received a Certificate for Recognition for Professional Leadership from Judy Baar Topinka, Illinois State Treasurer, and a Certificate of Recognition for Community Activism from Cook County (IL) State's Attorney, Richard A. Devine.

In 2002, Baskerville was appointed to the Executive Committee of the National Coalition for LGBT Health.[7]

Singer and rapper Kid Cudi, who wore a floral dress designed by the label Off White during a performance on "Saturday Night Live," confirmed Sunday afternoon that the garment was a tribute to Kurt Cobain.

Kid Cudi, 37, whose real name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, tweeted that Off White CEO Virgil Abloh created the dress for him with a tribute to Cobain in mind.

"Virgil designed the dress for me. I told him I wanted to show love to Kurt [with] a floral print sundress and this man made a masterpiece. Thank You @virgilabloh ur a f----- genius!! Love you man we did it!!!" Kid Cudi wrote.

Kid Cudi's performance on Saturday fell on the same week as the anniversary of Cobain's death at age 27. Cobain, Nirvana singer's and songwriter, died by suicide on April 5, 1994.

The dress resembled one Cobain wore when he appeared on the cover of "The Face" magazine in 1993, according to People.

He really is a laydee: David Walliams shows his feminine side in a startling photoshoot

David Walliams is no stranger to cross-dressing, having appeared in many frou frou dresses to play Eddie 'Emily' Howard in Little Britain.

And now the comedian has taken his love for ladies' clothes one step further as he poses in a high fashion shoot for a magazine.

While few would disagree the Little Britain star is really working his 'catalogue model' style poses, his attempts to look like a 'laydee' are severely diminished by his hairy legs.

Nice dress, shame about the legs: David Walliams goes for the feminine look in a salmon pussybow mini dress

In one humorous shot, David gives a seductive look at the camera as he sits on an antique chair dressed in a Stella McCartney, salmon mini-dress.

His look is completed with patent killer heels, given an extra sparkle with feathered bows hanging off the ankle.

In another shot, David contrasts his muscly arms and back with a strapless ballgown in a spectacular bid to look feminine.

Dressed in a corset and Vivienne Westwood floral skirt, David's 6ft 3 height is given an extra boost as he stands on a chair to allow his netted underskirt to flow to the floor.

While a majority of the shots were taken inside, brave David brought his feminine fashion outside for one shot as he struck a pose in a Vivienne Westwood black and brown dress, a fascinator on his head and a cigarette holder protruding from his mouth and a Chanel bag on his arm.

Standing outside a Chanel boutique, David aped the style of a Sloane Ranger out on a shopping spree in Knightsbridge.

The 37-year-old wore the series of stylish ensembles to promote his new children's book The Boy In A Dress for an interview with Observer Woman magazine.

The book is written by David and narrated by Quentin Blake.

It tells the story of a young boy called Dennis who likes to dress in women's clothes and his bid to be accepted by his peers.

Describing his opinion of cross-dressing, David said: 'I didn't want it to be seen purely as a metaphor for that, but... the truth about... transvestites.

'The truth is that it doesn't really mean you're gay. As anyone who has watched Kilroy, and seen transvestite truckers and soldiers being interviewed next to their long-suffering wives, will know.'

Walliams is currently starring onstage in a new West End production of Harold Pinter play No Man's Land which previewed last night.

An experience he admits, he initially found disconcerting when he first turned up for rehearsals.

'I thought, I don’t really know what the rules are. Are we allowed to go and have a cup of tea when we want?

'Do we have to ask the director when we need to go the toilet?'

He needn't have worried, Evening Standard critic Nicholas De Jongh called his performance in the show 'dazzling'.

He attended the after-party with co-star Michael Gambon last night.
